JATT CELEBRATES
INTERNATIONAL JAZZ DAY

UNESCO Goodwill Ambassador, Herbie Hancock kicks off the first annual International Jazz Day (IDJ) festivities with back to back concerts in Paris, New Orleans, and New York from April 27th - 30, 2012. To coincide with these concerts, Trinidad & Tobago joins over 30 other UNESCO heritage site countries with jazz-related activities to celebrate International Jazz Day.
Jazz Alliance of Trinidad and Tobago (JATT) will host two spectacular events
for jazz lovers, supporters, and musicians. JATT has partnered with the Hilton
Trinidad & Conference Centre and LiveArt Bistro to stage the following:
- Friday, 27th, April 2012 from 7:00pm – 10:00pm: Jazz movie, Blue Note – A Story of Modern Jazz and jam session, at LiveArt Bistro, 5 Albion Street (Between Dundonald St and Chancery Lane,) Contribution: $150.00 inclusive of complimentary drink and minibites, seating for 30 persons only so make your reservations now;
- Monday, 30th, April 2012 from 7:00pm – 10:00pm: A press conference to highlight and share the importance of jazz and its influence on Trinidad & Tobago's folk music, a live big screen simulcast of the all-star sunset concert hosted by Morgan Freeman, Robert DeNiro, Michael Douglas and Quincy Jones. Herbie Hancock, Wynton Marsalis, Esperanza Spaulding, to name a few, will perform. Tranz and The Sean Thomas Trio will close the evening with a live performance at the Hilton Trinidad Conference Centre, Upper Terrace. Open to the public.
IJD is an initiative developed by the United Nations Educational, Scientific
and Cultural Organization, along with the Thelonious Monk Institute of Jazz
which Hancock chairs. Together, they all hope that International Jazz Day will
encourage "governments, civil society organizations, educational institutions, and
private citizens, currently engaged in the promotion of jazz music, to embrace the
opportunity to foster" a greater appreciation for the contribution Jazz can make to
build more inclusive societies. More information can be found at:

Every year going forward, JATT will hold its celebration of IJD at schools, hotels, libraries, restaurants, and other venues for the entire month of April throughout Trinidad & Tobago.
