Mission Statement
As a non-profit organisation, Jazz Alliance of Trinidad and Tobago is dedicated to the Education, Development, Preservation and Promotion of the Genre of Jazz Music in Trinidad and Tobago. As an NGO, the Organization will apply its objectives to fulfil its designed purpose in the following manner:

Project Planning

The Project plans of the Organization are proposed under the four major objectives of the Mission Statement, Education, Development, Preservation and Promotion.
  • Education/Development

    J.A.T.T. is motivated to develop the Genre of Jazz in Trinidad and Tobago. It intends to develop an appreciation for the art form and to engender informed audiences throughout the Country.

    In so doing, it is hoped that the preservation and promotion of the music would also be ensured. Methods of Instruction, opportunities for personal participation and mediums for the experience and experimentation with the music will be employed.

    The following propositions are therefore considered:-
    1. Holding of Jazz workshops and Clinics throughout the Country;
    2. Taking Jazz workshops and clinics to the schools, introducing Jazz to schools.
    3. Efforts to reach younger audiences and participants for jazz using modern forms of music and dance to interface with the traditions of jazz in an attempt to excite youthful interest and participation and to create new ideas in jazz;
    4. To groom and mentor local jazz musicians opening opportunities for exposure abroad, for scholarships, programmes for the study of the music, both locally and internationally;
    5. Counselling, assisting and providing the forums for the meeting of Jazz minds of local musicians, creating mediums for their growth and development.
    6. Encouraging the exchange of artiste between Trinidad and Tobago, regionally and internationally;
    7. Providing a stage for local Jazz musicians to experience the art and act of performing.
    8. Arranging excursions to various Jazz festivals in the world.
    9. Arranging visits, excursions, pilgrimages to historic sites of Jazz such as New York, New Orleans.
  • Preservation

    The Organization regards the preservation of the Genre of Jazz as a focal object of its formation and desires to pay homage to its history and traditions through the mediums of teaching, informing, experiencing and experimenting.

    The following propositions are to be considered:-
    1. Lobbying the relevant organizations, event planners, entertainment agencies, businesses to stay true to the art form and to include its relevance in their considerations and to sponsor its showcasing and growth;
    2. Musical evenings of Jazz where a style of teaching about the music and informing on its history is incorporated with the playing and listening to recorded music of varied styles of Jazz.
    3. Providing forums for encouraging the playing and the experience of participation in the creation of the music such as Jam Sessions and Music Literary Programmes.
    4. Radio sessions to highlight varied aspects of the Music.
    5. Forging alliance with regional and international Jazz organizations.
  • Promotion

    The Organization purpose is to promote Jazz as an art form and Musical Genre throughout the jurisdiction of Trinidad and Tobago. Accordingly, it intends to utilize all forms of media and all mediums to make the said art form widely acceptable in the society of Trinidad and Tobago.

    The following propositions under this head are considered:-
    1. The establishment of a monthly magazine or newsletter – informing on Jazz, Jazz events, Critiques, expositions on jazz and general articles.
    2. A Yearly magazine.
    3. The Commission of articles in a daily newspaper of wide circulation – informing on jazz, its history, its personalities, etc.,
    4. A What’s On Column in the Newspaper for jazz events only;
    5. The planning of events such as Jazz Globalization week.
    6. The planning of an annual Kids Jazz Festival
    7. The planning of an annual Summer Holistic Jazz Workshop.
    8. The planning of an event such as Common Wealth of Sounds.
    9. The planning of an annual Jazz Up The Runway.
