THE SEXIEST COLLABORATION TO HIT CARNIVAL 2011
"JAZZOLYPSO"
If there is one event to include in your calendar of events to experience our local artistes in full flight this Carnival Season is "JAZZOLYPSO" scheduled for Saturday 26th February 2011. This is THE ONLY semi-inclusive event that brings you Soca, Calypso, and Jazz all on one stage. Big name Soca bands and acts will perform along with the top jazz musicians of the country to create what will be the most musical fete of the season!
Apart from the hits of the season "JAZZOLYPSO" will celebrate the greatest Soca and Calypso songs of our past by exploring twenty (20) of our greatest hits in Soca and Calypso. Big name Soca acts as well as celebrity jazz bands and musicians will interpret these classics. This year's treat: Patrons can win The "JAZZOLYPSO" song book, a hand book featuring 20 of our greatest Soca and Calypso Hits interpreted by our best musical talents filled with lyrics recapturing the true essence of Trini dialect.
Some of us have forgotten what a carnival fete is supposed to be like. A real fete is pan-round-the-neck, swaying the crowd as they work their way through. A real fete is Soca and Calypso artistes delivering soulful lyrics, which mash up the place with a clever hook. Most of all, a real fete is having a good time with good people… with food 'n' drink fuh so! That is exactly what the semi-inclusive "JAZZOLYPSO" is all about - making the party nice for all to enjoy.
Most important to note is that proceeds from "JAZZOLYPSO" will go towards The Jazz Alliance's Music Scholarship Fund, which provides financial assistance to local music students, and supports the continued professional development of our musicians. So patrons come for the fete and at the same time support the next generation of musicians in T&T.
But wait… there's even more reason to check out "JAZZOLYPSO"! Lucky patrons will have a chance to win one of our local jazz musicians CD, which means in addition to our song book you get a CD. For the real carnival connoisseurs it has to be Jazzolypso for touchdown this season.
JATT President Sean Thomas of the Jazz Alliance of Trinidad and Tobago says, 'combining Soca and Calypso with a tinge of jazz makes sense. They all share similar African origins, as Duke Ellington pointed out in A Drum is a Woman, with improvisation being central to both traditions. In their exploration of all rhythms and culture, jazz players have long borrowed the rhythms of calypso. So in homage to this long tradition, represented in the past by artistes like Lord Invader, Kitchener, Sparrow, Superblue and Duke- The Jazz Alliance of Trinidad and Tobago presents some of our premier soca artistes and jazz musicians to give you – "JAZZOLYPSO"
